Why providing broadband access is not as costly you think?

Over the last 3-4 years we have seen an explosion in the availability and adoption of broadband access into residential homes. This has been driven consumers demanding quicker access to the internet, email, home office working and advancements in technology that have made it cost effective for operators to deploy. For many people using communication services is now part of an individual's daily routine. The ability to have access to their online services in a quick, simple and cost effective manner is influencing the decision people make in respect to which properties they buy and rent, which gym club they join, the places they relax or the university hall of residence they choose. This decision criterion is also being extended to the business community into areas such as which serviced office to lease, which conference centre to use or which hotel to stay in.

Many operators have realised the revenue opportunities of providing broadband and there are a number of cost effective products targeted specifically at households and businesses. Unfortunately the solutions that are offered for niche areas such as hotels, property developments, serviced offices, universities, gyms and shopping centre are costly, complicated to maintain and the majority of the revenue goes to the operator and not the owner of the site.

The team at Tripleplay Services have been involved in helping many operators develop their broadband data products and services. This unique experience has enabled us to have a detailed understanding of the costs and challenges associated with delivering an end-to-end broadband data service.

The majority of systems that do exist to support these niche installations are based on priority technology which makes the overall solution costly to implement. To overcome this deficiency in Tripleplay has analysed the cost areas associated with providing a broadband data service. This has resulted in the development of their Subscription, Activation and Subscriber Management System ('SAS Manager') which provides a gateway service to enable users to access their online services such as email, the internet and corporate networks via a virtual private network. It is based on standard Intel server hardware, a Linux operating system, Extensible Mark-Up Language (XML) and HTML. It manages subscriber activation, provisioning, subscription and real-time payment authorisation. It can interface into any form of billing and customer management system through its open XML interface. We have developed a web based management system for remote management, monitoring and configuration, which supports Simple Network Management Protocol ('SNMP') which comes as part of the package.

The SAS Manager is designed to work with fixed, wireless and coaxial networks.. As each type of installation is different we provide a services package which includes a site survey, technical design, deployment, commissioning, testing and project management which is all documented so you are aware of what we have done. We provide all the hardware and network equipment you will need for your services and offer various support and maintenance packages based on your requirements. As part of our services package we can manage the installation of cable if you require it.

Our product and services package are aimed at ensuring that our customers achieve the lowest cost per subscriber at each site that is broadband enabled. We ensure that it is the site owner that receives the majority of the revenue generated from the service, so that they can maximise the return on their investment. With the ability to offer flexible packages to your customers the opportunities to expand your revenue streams is endless.

At Tripleplay Services, we aim to make tomorrow's technology today's reality.
